As co-host and content creator on the 'Breaking The Lines' sports podcast alongside three fellow postgraduate journalists, I combined thorough pre-show research, sharp debate, and dedicated short-form video production. Full episodes stream on YouTube, complemented by viral-focused clips across TikTok and Instagram.
On-camera hosting and dynamic sports debates
Sharing candid opinions on camera helped refine my presenting presence and broadcast confidence. Across our episodes, we covered breaking sporting headlines from the Premier League and the Championship. Moreover, engagement in lively and topical discussions was a real positive experience. Balancing journalistic accuracy with charismatic natural chemistry among co-hosts helped to keep audiences tuned in.
Engaging formats, player drafts and tier lists
To build an active community, we integrated interactive formats such as player rankings and debate tier lists. I researched statistics and background stories beforehand to substantiate arguments, ensuring every debate was informative, entertaining, and driven by solid sports knowledge. The range of topics discussed and different formats we presented in was something that I will take with me in my future endeavours.
Short-form clips for TikTok and Instagram
Understanding modern digital media habits, we conceptualised and packaged bite-sized highlights tailored for TikTok and Instagram. Converting long-form studio recordings into punchy, high-retention clips enabled our channel to capture wider sports audiences and drive cross-platform growth. It was a great experience to be able to host a varied form of content. Co-presenting for hour-long episodes was incredibly enjoyable, as well as thinking of new, engaging ideas for short-form clips.
